Files

Adding, renaming, duplicating and deleting files in an RTL++ project, which files are compiled, and how the top module and constraint file are chosen.

Working with files

  • Add a file from the Files section of the rail. A new .sv or .v file starts as an empty module named after the file.
  • Right click a file to open it, open it beside the current one, rename, duplicate, copy its path or delete it.
  • Deleting shows Undo for a few seconds. A project keeps at least one file.
  • Names use letters, numbers, dots, dashes, underscores and slashes for folders.

What is compiled

.sv and .v
Compiled as SystemVerilog 2012 and Verilog sources.
.svh and .vh
Headers, reached through `include.
.pcf, .lpf, .cst
Pin constraints. Right click one and choose Use as constraints.
.xdc and .sdc
Kept with the project and listed in the Inspector. A build reads .pcf for iCE40 and .lpf for ECP5.
Anything else
Kept with the project: a spec in Markdown, a memory image, a program.

The top module

The top module is what Build synthesizes and what the schematic draws. Set it in the Inspector, from the context menu of a file or a module in the Hierarchy, or from the command bar.
