Flashing
Program an FPGA board from RTL++ over WebUSB in Chrome or Edge, what each failure means, and how to use the bitstream with openFPGALoader instead.
After a build, press Flash in the Build lens with the board plugged in. The browser asks which USB device to use; choose the board.
- iCEBreaker
- Erases, writes and verifies the board's configuration flash, then checks that the FPGA started. The design loads at every power up.
- ULX3S 85F
- Runs openFPGALoader in the browser and loads the FPGA directly. The design runs until the board loses power.
- Other boards
- Download the bitstream and program it with openFPGALoader. The Build lens shows the command to copy.
What it needs
- Chrome or Edge, which support WebUSB. Other browsers get the bitstream download.
- The page served over https.
- Nothing else using the board, such as a serial monitor.
When it fails
Every failure is one sentence naming the cause, with a link to the fix when there is one, and the bitstream download stays beside it.
- Linux
- Another driver holds the board. Add the udev rules for the programmer, then plug the board in again.
- Windows
- The programmer needs the WinUSB driver. Install it with Zadig, then try again.
- macOS
- Another program is using the board. Close serial monitors and other FPGA tools, then plug it in again.
- Not found
- Check the USB cable and that the board is powered.
- The FPGA did not answer
- Check the board's power and jumpers.
