Schematic
The RTL++ schematic of the elaborated top module, one level of hierarchy at a time, cross-probed with the code and the waveform.
Open it from the command bar with Show schematic, or Open schematic beside the code. It draws the top module as elaborated, with its cells and the instances of your modules, and redraws after each edit that elaborates.
- Double click an instance to go into it. The path above the drawing goes back up.
- Click a cell or an instance to open the line of code that made it.
- Hover a wire to highlight that signal in the code and in the waveform. A signal highlighted in another view draws hot here too.
- Drag to pan, scroll to zoom, and Fit to see the whole level.
Small modules are laid out with ELK. Larger ones use a layered layout off the main thread, so a level of thousands of cells still draws quickly.
The schematic needs a design that elaborates. With errors, it says so and offers Show problems.
